It never ceases to amaze me at just how little physicians in general know or believe about nutrition. I overheard one oncology doctor say to his patient that nutrition had nothing to do with cancer. How ridiculous! How arrogant! And sadly, how typical. Nutrition certainly does have an effect on cancer and many other bodily functions and diseases as well.
A healthy diet cannot hurt you. An unhealthy diet can. There are many good things out there. There are just as many bad things out there and it is up to you, the consumer to educate yourself so that you will know the difference between the two and to try to chose what is best for you. Marketing is a tool that can make even the worst of nutrition to appear to look good. Don't be fooled by the hype and promises of fast and easy when in the grand scheme of things, time and effort always pay off. Some things are just not good for you. Soda pop is a prime example. Yes, soft drinks taste good. Yes, they feel good going down. Yes, they give us energy, especially if they contain caffeine and sugar. No, they do not provide any nutritional value and in fact are quite addictive and not a good part of any healthy nutritional plan. For now, just do the best that you can do to improve your health one step at a time.
